Rome’s popping things off this season with their new PopRock technology. It’s a response to the lifeless feel you can sometimes get from reverse camber boards. By adding a different flex patterns to their 1985 and reverse camber models it hopes to liven things up. They’re also continuing with artist collections on select gear and the Addictive Collection for creative freedom. Here’s a tidbit of what’s rolling out for the season. Enjoy.

Mike Basich on AREA-241
What is area 241?
AREA-241 is a playground for me and my clothing company Two For One (241-USA.com) to explore new ideas. Living in the mountains like this has been a child hood dream for me. I am finally doing it after traveling the world I have landed in Donner Summit, on 40 acres at 7,100 feet. Over the last 24 years I have been traveling to find places to explore, I finally decided to bring those things to my home instead of going out and chasing them. This is really what I was after. Now I get to do this in my own yard, from photos to coming up with new product ideas, I really get to test this stuff out in a real snow world. As a child I wanted to live off the land so my cabin has been a learning experience of how to build with what you have to work with. My land is mostly granite so my cabin became a granite cabin, and from the electrical to learning how to build a tow rope, it has made me more aware of things at home and where ever I go now. For sure makes you do things different when you get out there and do it yourself.
I never learned much when I was in school, I learned what I know from going out there and doing it.
When did you decide to carve out this little corner of the earth for yourself? And why? It was just time. When I look back now when I bought this place I realized I was in a place in my life that I was feeling it was time to stand on my own two feet.
Break down your daily routine at Area-241?
Man, every day is different. Well. Yesterday I woke up to a bear trying to get into my grease tank on my truck, mixed 25 bags of cement to do some rock work around my hot tub. Drove my little solar golf cart to the lake by my house for a swim. Worked on my snowcat, had some mice chew up some wires. And went on an hour hike down my creek to find the perfect smooth rock to finish one of the steps into my hot tub. Hope to finish the hot tub in the next couple days. Now winter at Area-241 is a different world. And yes it has been very different every day. Sometimes it takes me ten minutes to sled to my house, sometimes it has taken me five hours. On the big storms of course that is when I make sure I am there, they are the funniest but you can’t be in a hurry. Sometimes I will sled to Sugarbowl to go ride on the big days. Sledding to the bar is always fun to, I added a full resort groomer to Area-241 this last fall, and that has made my world up here a lot easier to get around and building jumps will never be the same.
Over the last 24 years I have been traveling to find places to explore, I finally decided to bring those things to my home instead of going out and chasing them.
How do you power the place? Right now I have solar panels. My cabin is pretty simple. I wired it a lot like my van, it’s all 12 volts with inverters when I need them. Most of the things in daily life are 12 volt, cell phone, computer. Cameras. It’s nice to not have utility bills anymore.
How much time do you spend up there?
Right now I am spending 50 percent of my time there. I hope by next winter I will be there full time. I have internet now which helps take care of stuff without leaving, but with my clothing company I go to my warehouse at times to ship stuff out. I still do all that stuff myself so it’s a bit of time, it’s only 45 minutes from my house but snowmobiling three miles to my car to drive to my warehouse is always a task in the middle of a snow storm. So if you’re going to order a 241 product, please don’t order it during a snow storm. Or if you do, you now know that is took a snowmobile or a split board, to car to ship your order.
I don’t get lonely really. My days are normally pretty full of stuff to do.
How often do you have visitors?
I actually have quite a bit. Seems everyone is always excited to go experience something new, so people seem to want to make the truck up on their split board, sled, snowshoes whatever it may be, to come up and ride the homemade tow rope, or just hang out in the hot tub. In the summer there is a bike trail near my house so I get friends stopping by often during their ride.
Do you get lonely? What do you do to pass the time, besides snowboarding?
I don’t get lonely really. My days are normally pretty full of stuff to do. So it takes a lot for me to get lonely. I can be in Truckee within 20 minutes though if I feel the need to connect more with people. But I get a lot of people coming up here.
How did you build this home? How long did it take? Who helped?
Two weeks before I started to build my place I decided to build it out of rocks instead of wood. Simply cause I realized rocks survive a lot better in the weather I deal with here. But it added a couple years of extra work. This next October I will be done with my cabin and it will be four years. My house has been built with approximately 175 ton of granite moved by hand, my mom has been my number one worker. I tried to hire friends to go find rocks on my property and bring them back, but there is nothing like family. My cabin is built under the golden ratio and if you want to know more about what I am up to here, I am making a movie to share the world this coming fall. I be listing it on my website 241-usa.com. It’s still taking shape but it will be a bit of my younger life and finding snowboarding and what it has done for me in life.
List off all the “toys” you’ve got up there?
My latest is a 1997 275 Bombardier snow cat. Got a nice tiller on the back, snowmobiles, my moms old Passport with homemade snow tracks, saw mill to mill wood for my snowboards, my split board and some nice good old four-foot snowshoes when all else fails.
My house has been built with approximately 175 ton of granite moved by hand, my mom has been my number one worker.
It seems like you embrace the DIY approach more than a lot of other snowboarders, or humans for that matter. Why do you choose to do-it-yourself with almost everything you do in life?
It’s a simple reason of wanting to feel like I moved through life being me. I like knowing what and how things work that I use in my life. So it leads me almost every time to doing it myself to explore and understand what it is that I am doing as well at the same time it gives me knowledge to help make a choice for something better fitting for the next thing. I never learned much when I was in school, I learned what I know from going out there and doing it. So I really haven’t stopped, not about to anytime soon either, life is just way too exciting.

Boa Stomps the Comp with New H2 Coiler Reel
Boa Debuts H2 Coiler Reel to Compliment Focus System on 09/10 Partner Snowboard Boots
Denver, Co. - Adding to the arsenal of Boa options available to the snowboard world for Winter 2009, Boa Technology, makers of the award-winning patented Boa Lacing System, introduces the new H2 Coiler Reel. Featured on some of the most innovative boots this season produced by DC, Vans, K2, Ride, Flow and others, Boa is once again taking performance fit and zonal closure to the next level for elite riders.
The Slim new H2 on the Ride Insano Boot.
Living and breathing lacing technology 24/7, the design crew at Boa created the new H2 Coiler to complement the already radical Boa Focus system launched last season. “We are always looking to innovate and improve the performance of our products,” says Boa Director of Product Design, Brett Vladika. “And we designed the H2 Coiler to be our most secure, low-profile, high-power reel yet.”
Meeting the sport’s highest-performance standards by delivering the perfect combination of on-the-fly micro-adjustability, bombproof construction and all-day secure closure, the H2 Coiler, combined with Boa’s revolutionary Focus System, offers snowboarders ultimate reliability to ride first chair-to-last call every day. Automatically winding in slack lace when tightening the reel, the Boa H2 Coiler boasts a stronger, lower profile push/pull mechanism to counter unintentional reel pop-outs on big landings, simple lace replacement and more custom colors options for product designers.
“The H2 Coiler was a big favorite among athletes and product designers during development and testing over the last two winters,” says Boa Sales Manager Ilya Minkin. “The Boa Focus Lacing System, featuring the H2 Coiler, delivers multi-zonal adjustability in all conditions, anywhere on the mountain.”

ROME SDS INVENTS STAY POSITIVE CAMBER
With a slew of industry reporters present at a press conference at their Waterbury, Vermont headquarters, the Rome Snowboard Design Syndicate announced today that it has invented Stay Positive Camber.
Okay, so we exaggerate a little. Or a lot. We admit that there wasn’t a slew of reporters. Hell, there wasn’t even a press conference. And, okay, we admit that we haven’t invented positive camber, either. So we unfortunately can’t claim in Transworld Business that we “have a patent coming to start getting patent revenue” for positive camber. Like skiers invented reverse camber in the late 90s, we have to grudgingly acknowledge that two-planker ski Nazis invented positive camber also. Damn skiers—but at least they aren’t threatening all us snowboarders with patent royalties.
On the flipside of Rome’s playful, loose reverse camber Poprock Technology line, the Stay Positive Camber boards balance out the collection with a loaded feel that a bunch of riders prefer for different types of riding. Mounting up Mods, Agents, Artifacts and Lo-Fis, Rome’s team riders spend some or all of their time popping off positive camber boards. Bjorn rides the Mod, Agent and Artifact for his seamless blend of kickers, lines and jibs. Will Lavigne rides the Agent for jumping and the Artifact for hand rails. And Johnnie Paxson steps on the Agent to kill pretty much everything you put in front of him.
And then there are riders who mix it up, spending some time blowing shit up on Poprock and the rest of their time happily on the positive side of the tracks. LNP rides the positive camber Artifact for tricks where he spins onto rails (he rides the Artifact 1985 for press tricks). Eiki rides the Mod for double corks and other jump tricks (he rides the the Artifact 1985 for rails, ledges, and jibs). MFR rides the Lo-Fi for jumps and lines (she rides the Lo-Fi 1985 for rails). Johnny Lazz rides the Agent for jumps and lines (he rides the Artifact 1985 for rails).
As someone in snowboarding once said, “you can’t patent fun.”
But you can patently have fun with Stay Positive Camber.
Just ask Bjorn, LNP, MFR, Eiki, Wil, Paxson and Lazz. Let more pop put a smile on your face.

Last summer Randall Stacy got caught in a massive avalanche at Cerro Catedral. I found out about it from an email with a vimeo video link. The video (here) was a bunch of Randall’s footy and the last shots were of the slide. Anyone and everyone who watched the clip couldn’t believe he survived the slide. This August I met Randall down at SASS. He’s a real cool kid. Older than his age and a ripping snowboarder. We talked about his near-death experience while hanging at the SASS lodge one night. Here’s what he had to say.
And here’s a few shots of Randall

Airblaster introduces the Baker Lens
Snowboard goggles are made with Two lenses. There is a outer lens and a inner lens. These two lenses are glued together with a small strip of foam between them. In addition to the two lens design many goggles have a Chrome mirror coating on the outside and the Airblaster Airgoggle is no exception. As many people know this chrome mirror coating can be very sensitive to scratches. New for 2009/10 season Airblaster has designed a solution to this problem. The Baker Lens is the most bullet proof goggle lens design on the market.
The new design is simple. Airblaster has switched out the position of the clear lens. Normally the clear is on the inside but now on the new Baker Lens you will find the clear lens on the outside. This puts a clear non chrome lens in the place that gets the most abuse. Behind this lens is the tinted chrome mirror coated lens. With its position on the outside of the inside lens the chrome is now sealed inside the two lenses and can not be harmed.
The new Baker Lens is bullet proof (not an actual bullet, we use only to reference that they are very very very strong). It is a true 100+ days a season lens. You can not rube the chrome off this lens. The new design is now available as a replacement lens on the Airblaster online store and these replacement lenses fit all Airblaster goggles.

This is how the interns get “paid.” Yep we let them out of their cages only for the running length of the movie. Any longer and we’d have the humane society on our ass. Our lunch crumbs replace their popcorn, but we let ‘em dig through the mounds of energy drinks to wet their pallet because it keeps ‘em fixated on the screen. So kicking things off for the season is your shred-vid breakdown brought to you by yours truly, the Angry Interns.
Think Thank Productions’ Cool Story
Riders: Ben Bogart, Tim Eddy, Austin Hironaka, Pat Milbery, Sean Genovese, Johnny Miller, Scott Stevens, Gus Engle, Jesse Burtner, Chris Beresford, Matt Edgers, Andre Spinelli, Sam Hulbert, Blair Habenicht, Nick Visconti, Mark Thompson, Chris Larson.
Jesse Burtner, Scott Stevens and friends are in full form in this film. If you’ve ever seen any of the Think Thank movies before, you know what you’re getting into. In Cool Story, you’ll see more fast plants, kick flips, and flailing feet than any other movie on the market. I’d say about 20 to 25 percent of the movie involves one or more bindings left bootless. These guys get wicked while leaving one chicken wing, or leg for that matter, flapping in the wind. Not only were the Think Thank homies thinking outside the bindings last season, but they were shredding some of the most creative features you have ever seen! Tight trannys and double lines were the name of the game, straight skate park style creativity. Although, don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of good old fashion cheese wedges to be frothed upon. The thing that sets Cool Story apart from, not only other Think Thank films, but pretty much any boarding video we’ve seen in the past few years is, the video takes you through the 2008-2009 season in chronological order (Ooooohh ground breaking I know, I know). Each rider has their own individual section, but they are introduced in chronological order according to when they met up with Burtner and the crew. So it’s a breath of fresh air as far as snowboard movie formats are concerned.
Standouts: Ben Bogart opens up the movie with some steezy style on the rails. Mike Tyson would be proud of his nose press. Tim Eddy gets weird on the urban scene and then makes you find yourself hooting at his switch back fives into untracked fields of pow. Pat Milbery’s part is cool. I’m pretty sure that 95% of snowboarders would never think of jibbing some of the stuff that Milbery does. Johnny Miller actually plays a sick metal ballad for his own section. Scott Stevens is up to his usual fancy footed antics shared with Jason Robinson, Chris Brewster, Pat McCarthy, and Brady Farr. Gus Engle has his best part we’ve seen in a long time. Kid gets nasty on anything that could possible be jibbed on (including a gorilla), and has the craziest one footed/unstrapped combos ever!
Burtner has like Arnold Schwarzenegger’s back leg or something, because he does some Govinator worthy fast plants. Real talk. Chris Beresford boardslides a moving object, and slides about 20 snowboards standing upright like dominos. Matt Edgers has a breakout part shredding some natty-ass northwest lines. Andre Spinelli has a plethora of double corks and off axis spins to unload. Sam Hulbert shows that his snowboard works even better when he’s not wearing a contest jersey. We found out from Nick Visconti’s video part that he is as talented as his clothes are colorful. Mark Thompson has a serious pair hanging between his legs (double cork included), and the ender goes to….young buck Chris Larson! Homeboy’s got mad skills in the streets.
This movie is really good. The sound track is sick (maybe the best yet), and its got a great combo of backcountry, rails, park, and all that weird one footed stuff that the Think Thank crew made cool. If you’re looking for the typical bangers, snow-porn type of video I’d pass on this guy, but if you want something new and fresh go pick up Cool Story, us interns are going to buy it (because all the “paid employees” took all the free copies).

Boreal’s JPI.5 Event Goes Public
Donner Summit, CA, (September 21, 2009) – Returning for its fifth straight year, JPI is taking a huge change of direction. It’s been a fun and exciting run throwing a massive pre-season Pro Shred event, but it’s time for a change. While it’s definitely cool to watch some of the best Pros compete for cash. We thought spectators would rather be part of the action. So this year Boreal is switching the “P” in JPI from PRO to PUBLIC!
Last year Boreal’s expanded JPI Public Arena was a giant success with over 600 riders, over two days. Public riders are the total focus for the upcoming JPI.5. We want to give back to the loyal, dedicated park riders and let them feel the stoke first hand this pre-season by getting on the snow as early as possible, maybe even putting some extra cash in their pockets at the same time. The $2,000 cash purse Boreal formally gave to the Pros for best tricks, is for grabs in the public arena. Boreal park staff will be handing out cash, $20-$100 a pop, on the spot for impressive tricks. Also, tons of prizes from our park sponsors will be up for grabs. No bibs, no start lists…basically you get to shred for a few hours before the season officially begins and try to win some cash.Tickets to hike the public park are only $10, but access is free to any 09/10 Boreal Season Passholder. At the event you can take advantage of Boreal’s Last Chance Pass Sale and save up to 30% on your season pass including the recently reduced College Pass for only $99.
But wait….there’s more! Get your batteries charged and polish up on those editing skills. Totally new this year is the Team Video Challenge. 15 teams will be granted private time in the arena to shoot a 3-5 minute video edit for a chance at $2,000 “winner-take-all” cash prize, provided by resort sponsor FUEL TV. Teams will have 36 hours after the riding ends to post their finished video to their team page on Boreal’s terrain park website www.borealterrainpark.com. Also up for grabs will be a $500 cash prize for the “most viewed” video and 2 round-trip tickets on Southwest Airlines. Additional winning categories and prizes will be announced Oct 1st when online team registration begins. Winners will be announced 10 days after the event. All of the Teams and Best Trick winners along with friends and family (limit 2) are invited back up to Boreal for the grand reveal and thank you party upstairs in the FUEL TV youth lounge.Visit borealterrainpark.com for more details plus a list of contest rules.
So, when is all this going to go down? Well, that is up to Mother Nature. Over the last 3 years Boreal has been able to make snow the first week of October in preparation for JPI. Keep an eye on Boreal’s webcam for snow making activity, check borealterrainpark.com and sign up for Text Message Alerts. We will text message information about snowmaking and event status, so you can be the first to know.
Drive less, spend less, shred MORE. Over 100 features in 4 parks at Boreal atop Donner Summit, located off Interstate 80, just 90 minutes from Sacramento, 35 minutes from Reno and only 8 miles from Truckee. Masterminds Behind RIDE Shakedown Bring International Event to Washington’s Summit at Snoqualmie
Seattle, September 23, 2009 – One of the North America’s top snowboard events, the Ride Shakedown, is crossing the border for its U.S. debut this winter. More than 40 of the world’s top pro men and women snowboarders and 80 ams will bring their A-game to the Pacific Northwest to compete for a $35,000 purse and connect with their fans. March 12-13, 2010.
The RIDE Shakedown, held at Mont-Saint-Sauveur, Quebec, during the past eight winters, is one of the snowboard industry’s most exciting and anticipated competitions, drawing the biggest names in snowboarding and more than 20,000 fans to the two-day festival. The inaugural U.S. edition of the RIDE Shakedown big air and rail competition will be held in the Cascade Mountains in front of Summit at Snoqualmie located 45 miles east of Seattle. It will be followed April 2-3 in Quebec with the 9th Canadian edition of the event.
“We are obviously very proud to offer the American public such a unique snowboard experience,” said Patryck Bernier, co-founder of Dizzle Entertainment and organizer of the RIDE Shakedown. “Due to the previous success and unique format of the event, we’re expecting to draw thousands of winter sports fans from Portland to Vancouver, B.C., and especially Seattle, to the Summit.”
Seattle, hometown of RIDE Snowboards
The launch of the first U.S. edition of the RIDE Shakedown came to fruition through the collaborative efforts of title sponsor Ride Snowboards, based in Seattle’s industrial SODO neighborhood, and a driver in the industry since 1992.
“It means a lot to us to bring Shakedown to our backyard and give international exposure to one of our top local resorts,” said Scott Mavis, Ride Snowboards’ brand director. “Last winter at Mont Saint-Sauveur, we saw first-hand how several of the industry’s major players loved the format of the event. A less-formal competition and fun atmosphere makes it a highly desired event for athletes and a lifetime experience for fans. Snowboarders throughout the Pacific Northwest will love it.”
RIDE Shakedown’s unique format
While there are many snowboarding events in the U.S., the RIDE Shakedown stands out by virtue of its unparalleled competition format. Its concept: a relaxed, festive happening with minimal restrictions on athletes. Taken to the very heart of the action, spectators are treated to a thrilling competition of the highest caliber, which nonetheless remains highly accessible. The lines are blurred between pros, amateurs and locals who drive to the Summit at Snoqualmie to experience the event.
At the RIDE Shakedown, athletes, both male and female, will take part in a competition that demands a mastery of two different disciplines: the Big Air and a rail jam featuring a rail with different textures revealed only on the first day of competition. The unveiling of the Shakedown’s best-kept secret is highly anticipated by both visitors and participants, who must adjust their strategies accordingly. The one-of-a-kind rail, designed by Bernier and his business partner Brendan O’Dowd, promises to astound with thrilling, high-altitude performances.
Athletes have two hours to perform two judged runs, announcing them before they carry them out under the watchful eye of industry players. There is no pre-determined order, as riders perform when they feel ready, a unique competition format appreciated by all those involved. Large purses are awarded to the best athletes.
About RIDE Snowboards
For passionate snowboard enthusiasts of all ages, Ride represents an uncompromised, fun-at-all-costs approach to life. Founded in Redmond, Washington, in late 1992, Ride hit the market with a vision - to create a snowboard company for the people, built upon technical innovation, superior quality and living the dream. Today, based in Seattle, Ride continues to stay true to its original goals. For Ride, it’s not about being the biggest; it’s about being the best at what they do. For the latest on the 2009/10 Collection, visit www.RideSnowboards.com.
DIZZLE Entertainment, architects of the RIDE Shakedown
The two founders and partners of DIZZLE Entertainment, Brendan O’Dowd and Patryck Bernier, have been providing event-oriented design, marketing and management services since 2004. Over time, they have added to these. They now provide services as athletes’ agents and consultants on the design and creation of snowboard parks. In 2009, DIZZLE’s roster of major achievements include the design, marketing and management of the snowparks of the Mont Saint-Sauveur International Group, the ZONE 514 snowboard park of Montreal’s Société du Parc Jean-Drapeau, the Shakedown Snowboard Camp, the Metal Mission-Golden Bowl retailers’ challenge as well as various launches related to the action sports industry. For real? That’s what we asked ourselves when Flow dropped these things off in a locked, aluminum briefcase. Full on James bond style. None of us had seen them or heard about ‘em till we popped the lid open and the gold sparkled. Flow didn’t hold anything back when they designed these things. Full 24 karat gold plated aluminum base tray, miniratchets, steel hardware and strap emblems. If you’re going for the gold might as well not skimp out on the highback and strap either. The highback’s full carbon fiber and the strap’s 100% cushy genuine leather. Now you can make your board envious, but it’ll cost a cool $1,000. Check more out at flow.com

Hello everyone,
I’ve been traveling heavily the last couple months and i have a couple blogs to share with you.
I ll begin with the Billabong Shoot in New Zealand we just had.
Going to cold winter in the middle of the summer feels always funny.. I always forget half of my gear, and get half sick.. this time we all got sick at some point.. luckily the Fifa Xbox game kept all of us happy and alive through the down days. The house was quite full and I was staying in an RV through the whole trip.. and most of you already know it is my favorite!
I really enjoyed hanging out with all my team mates, Sylvain, Clint, Jenny, Wolle, Jamie etc.. them and Vanessa, Eric, Woody, Andrew, Danielle, Nick and David.
I arrived right on a sunny day with powder.. we went up to Treble Cone and slashed some pow, the view is beautiful from up there over looking Wanaka’s lake. The next day was still sunny and we took the opportunity to go heli boarding.
After that the weather got bad and we shot all the catalog stuff we needed. We had many shots to get with all next year’s gear and it didn’t leave much time for adventure. But we all had a good time. plus i got to add another 10 soups to my pumpkin soup list. YUM!
all together we stayed 2 weeks and on the way back, as we had to fly over the pacific ocean, Vanessa and I decided to stop over in Fiji and I ll tell you all about it in my next blog.
thanks to Vanessa Andrieux for the photos
thanks to Billabong for the fun trip!

NO BOOTS, NO BOARD, SNODICE!
All you need are your boots, your board, and a set of SnoDice, and you’ll be off enjoying the mountain slopes with your buddies in no time. From method grabs to switch backside 900’s, from front boards to switch back 270 boardslides, SnoDice has every boarder covered. High fives, smiles, awesome times, and top-notch boarding action are included.
Salt Lake City, Utah - September 15, 2009 - At a time when double-corks are the norm, and riders must be able to do a 1080 in order to get a free sticker pack, the people at SnoDice have created a game everyone can enjoy. Inspired by the belief that snowboarding is too much fun to waste time “training” for the X-Games or worrying about what the “cool” new trick is, SnoDice aims to re-grow some of snowboarding’s lost roots.

From the first game played last March in Breckenridge with homemade cardboard dice, to the present perfected “rail” and “jump” versions, the game of SnoDice is a simple way to spice up a day of shredding. It has always been about experimenting and learning new tricks, taking a different approach to each and every day of shredding, and most importantly getting out in the snow covered hills and having fun with your buddies. And SnoDice wants to keep these ideals rolling.
“Snowboarding has gotten a little like stale bread,” says co-owner John Pape, “it’s still good for you but not so tasty. I am going to make that stale bread into croutons with these SnoDice because croutons are both delicious and healthy. ”
“My brain does my thinking for me, and it thinks these dice are the cat’s pajamas,” says Christian Wenzler of SnoDice.
“I was supposed to hang out with my girlfriend, but this is way more fun,” said Madison Elsworth, friend and earth surfer extraordinaire, after playing the game.
Preparing to go on tour this winter, SnoDice and its affiliates will be showing up at mountains all over to hang out and film games for their weekly web videos. Dice will be rolled, tricks and friendships will be made, and parties will be reminiscent of the year 1999.
With a do it yourself attitude, out of pocket funding, and the burning desire to give something back to the boarding lifestyle they love, SnoDice is here to change things up. No bosses and no one to answer to but the millions of people out there who love to snowboard. Get ready to have some fun, this one is for everybody. 3-2-1 blastoff!
SnoDice is Matthew Puodziunas, Kyle Cartwright, Jon Lok, Christian Wenzler, and John Pape. Follow their exploits on www.snodice.comNo and all those spyspace networks.

After purchasing the pass, college students can save time by uploading their pass photo online and picking up their pass at a special college pass will-call. Pass photos can be uploaded online at http://www.squaw.com/pass-photo
To pick up the $369 College Pass, students must bring current school photo ID, a copy of course schedule or registration, and a signed letter from school registrar/dean stating full-time student status to Squaw Valley’s Special Tickets office or college will-call (if pass photo was uploaded online).

Bear Mountain’s Movie “Parkumentary” Set To Premier
Bear Mountain’s new movie will premier along with the Stepchild and Thirtytwo team movie “This Video Sucks,” Saturday, September 19th immediately following the Hot Dawgz & Hand Rails competition. This is Bear Mountain’s sixth movie and for 2009 they deliver a unique documentary called “Parkumentary.” This film tracks 20 years of terrain park and snowboarding innovation, style, creativity and history at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. Beginning with Summit’s hand-dug halfpipe in 1989 and the opening of Bear’s Outlaw terrain park in 1990 it all started in Big Bear. From the domination of Summit’s Westridge and Ego Trip parks of the late 1990’s, and the rise of Bear’s All-Mountain Park in 2002, to new one of a kind features coming this season, Big Bear has been leading the way in terrain park development and helping to push the progression of snowboarding for two decades. It’s a solid place in snowboarding history for a couple of resorts located in sunny Southern California.

WINDELLS ACADEMY – INAUGURAL YEAR BEGINS
This week marks the opening of the first ever semester of Windells Academy offering educational instruction, personalized tutoring and action sports coaching for high schoolers grades 9-12
MT HOOD, OR – September, 2009 –The funnest place on earth just became the smartest place on earth. This week, Windells welcomed its charter students to its Mt Hood campus as they began taking high school classes and preparing themselves to experience year-round riding and professional coaching, in the inaugural year of Windells Academy.
The first week of Windells newly launched Academy was active, to say the least. In addition to teaching high school classes and snowboarding, President Mike Hanley and Owner/Founder Tim Windell took the student body (which come to Windells from places like New York and West Virginia) on a tour of Portland to get them acclimated to the city. They also arranged a visit to two Portland based snowboard companies – Bonfire and Atmosphere clothing. This weekend, Hanley will be taking the students to the Oregon coast to go surfing. Hanley also happens to be a surf coach so he plans on working with the students on technique. The following weekend they will be taking the students on a 3-day rafting trip down the lower Deschutes.
“These kids come from the east coast and other areas far away from Oregon. We are trying to give them the opportunity to have not only a well rounded education but to see and experience some of the world’s greatest outdoor landscape. No other Academy has this. Not to mention, we have skiing 365 days a year and you can’t get that anywhere else” said Tim Windell.
While attending Windells Academy, students will have the option to live on campus, giving them full access to all of Windells facilities, and the opportunity to ride twelve months a year at Timberline Ski Resort. The academy offers services for grades 9-12 through Kaplan Education. Students are enrolled in either Kaplan College Preparatory program or the Kaplan High School program, depending on their academic aptitude. Kaplan High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation.
“This is an extremely exciting time for us,” says Founder Tim Windell, “This is the next step in taking our campers’ skills to the next level. Kids can live, learn, eat, sleep and ride everyday. They can get top notch coaching and education at the same time.”
In addition to the full academic staff Kaplan provides, Mike Hanley, President of Windells Academy, will run the day-to-day operations of the school while providing added support for all attending students. Hanley is a former professional skier and collegiate diver and has studied at eight universities around the world, ranging from the University of Utah, to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, to L’Université de Neuchâtel and the University of Wales. From 2004-2006 Hanley was the United States Team Coach for the World Cup Ski Halfpipe, and was also the head free ride coach for the Squaw Valley Freestyle Ski Team. Over the course of his career, he has worked with the best of the best, including pros such as Tanner Hall, Ashley Battersby, Sean Field, and up-and-comers like Alex Schlopy and Joss Christensen. Hanley has also coached notables like Simon Dumont and Seth Morrison, who have sought his expertise at the Utah Olympic Park.
Windells Academy is a natural progression for Windells Camp. Over the last 22 years, Tim Windell has sought to fulfill his vision of making Windells the most progressive camp in the action sports industry. Windells athletic facilities include a 53-acre campus with indoor and outdoor recreation amenities – foam pit, trampolines, cardio-gym, BMX dirt tracks, skate parks, vert ramp, half pipe, ridiculous amounts of concrete and rails, Dex’s Store, and the Super Awesome Information Center. Students also have the opportunity to ride 12 months out of the year at Timberline Ski Resort. Timberline is the only resort in the United States open 365 days a year, allowing athletes to continue to push their sport and develop their skills, while rubbing elbows with the who’s who of the action sports industry. What Windells Academy offers its athletes is unmatched by any other academy in the action sports industry.
For more information go to www.windellsacademy.com.
Founded in 1988 by nine-time National Champion and two-time Vice World Champion snowboarder Tim Windell, Windells has been a world leader in action sports for the past two decades. The camp’s goal is to not only improve kids’ skills on the slopes and on the street, but also create a fun and safe place for kids to creatively express themselves through sport. From building permanent half-pipes, cheese-wedge jumps to creating new moves and fighting scoring regulations in competitions, Windells has been a pioneer in action sports. Windells is also the world’s only privately owned campus and features a permanent, year-round half-pipe and ski run. The Windells campus also has BMX dirt bike paths, an indoor skate park with a foam pit, and on-site housing for campers. For those who have been there, Windells is known as the “funnest place on earth.”

The junk show moved south into the heart of SD last night. Forum Forever and Standard’s Black Winter both showed at the Balboa Theater in front of an almost standing room only crowd. The theater is a high class joint, but as always the band of dirts that show up to these things kept it pretty gutter. But….. the videos were elevated. That’s all there is to it. Lots of hammers. Highlights:

Forum Forever
Pat Moore’s heavy heavy metal opener. Jake Blauvelt and Jake Welch’s opposite and equally savage sections. Niko Cioffi and Nic Sauve’s new shit. Daniel Ek’s hell-for-leather shredding. John Jackson’s two song ender had reggae and ridiculous double corking.

Black Winter
Torstein’s perfect park run. Lando’s possessed pow attack. Xavier did lines you’d die on. Halldor hammered on some monster park jumps, went upside down twice and landed like he was asleep. Then Lonnie Kauk closed it down and left jaws dropped. He flew like a bird.
Buy these movies and try to keep up. Know: It’ll be hard. Last winter things moved forward in warp-speed.

COLORADO RESORTS ELEVATE SKIING EXPERIENCE
For 2009-10, Resorts Focus on Mountain Amenities, Guest Service and Value
DENVER, CO – September 9, 2009 – During the 2009-10 ski season, Colorado Ski Country USA’s (CSCUSA) 22 member resorts will focus on the core of what makes Colorado the most popular ski destination in the country—opportunities for guests to enjoy consistent powder snow and unparalleled services and facilities.
Resorts are treating this season as an opportunity to keep skiers coming to Colorado, amid an unstable economy, by honing in on the guest experience—a strategy that, over the years, has made Colorado synonymous with skiing.
To meet their goals, Colorado resorts are adding to their on-snow profiles this season, improving and enhancing lodging and base area service facilities, and investing in the human capital that forms the backbone of Colorado’s ski industry. Guest-facing amenities remain top priority, as Colorado resorts hold their guests’ satisfaction in the highest regard.
Arapahoe Basin
Over the last several years, A-Basin has gone through a transformation. The iconic resort went from installing its first snowmaking system in 2002 to carrying out the largest terrain expansion in the United States in 2008 by opening Montezuma Bowl. With these improvements, Arapahoe Basin has grown significantly in size and reputation, while maintaining the friendly attitude for which it is known.
Arapahoe Basin also opened a new mid-mountain facility, Black Mountain Lodge, in 2007. The Lodge improved the skier experience and has allowed A-Basin to hold nighttime events. Skiers and riders have embraced this new addition, which allows them to stay at mid-mountain for a meal or for a respite from the mountain’s steeps, without having to ski to the bottom.
With these on-mountain improvements came more skiers and riders, which caused the mountain to expand parking and shuttle facilities in 2008. A-Basin increased parking capacity in 2008 by 300 spots at the High Noon and Last Chance parking lots, built a pedestrian tunnel under Highway 6, and added two shuttle busses to take guests from these upper lots to the base area.
For the 2009-10 ski season, the resort is focusing on keeping these improvements in top shape and on continuing momentum from the 2008-2009 season, which was the resort’s second best season on record in terms of skier visits.
Aspen/Snowmass
Aspen Skiing Company (ASC) has invested more than $130 million over the previous six seasons, giving guests some of the most seamless skiing/riding experiences in the industry. Improvements over that period include 11 new lifts with two new gondolas, the industry-leading Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center, three new restaurants, additional terrain plus the new Snowmass base village.
This year alone, ASC will invest nearly $8 million in on-mountain improvements. Included in these improvements will be a 100 percent hands-free radio frequency gate access program across the four mountains of Aspen/Snowmass. ASC will be the only resort in North America to have 100 percent hands-free access. Lift tickets will be a plastic card with a chip inside detecting guests as they move through lift lines. Now there’s no need for guest to dig in their pocket to find their pass or ticket, allowing for smooth and quick access to the slopes. Besides the new and improved ticket system, a tunnel to ease skier traffic will be built on Buttermilk above the terrain park – specifically above Uncle Chucks Glades – to separate terrain park traffic and regular skier traffic.
In addition to the on-mountain improvements, the company will complete the first phase of an $18 million renovation at The Little Nell hotel this fall. The Little Nell, Aspen’s only five-star, five-diamond hotel, just steps away from the Silver Queen Gondola, is setting a new standard in hotel room design with the commission of internationally known residential designer Holly Hunt.
Also coming in the 2009-10 season is the LEED Silver-certified Viceroy Snowmass, the anchor hotel for the new $1 billion base village at Snowmass. The Viceroy Snowmass will open with 152 guest rooms, a 7,000 square-foot spa, a fine dining restaurant and café.
Aspen/Snowmass will continue to be the host resort for world class events, including the Women’s FIS World Cup Alpine ski races in November and the CoverGirl Snow Angels Invitational in April. Also returning for the 2009-10 season is the ESPN Winter X Games 14 in January, which has recently extended their contract stating that Buttermilk will host the X Games through 2012.
Copper Mountain
Copper Mountain recently opened Woodward at Copper, which is the first indoor/outdoor ski and snowboard camp on the planet. The 20,000 sq ft Woodward at Copper Barn gives campers access to Snowflex® jumps, foam pits, a spring floor, trampolines and indoor skateboard features. Participants develop their tricks in The Barn and progress them in Copper’s nationally recognized terrain parks and Superpipe. In the winter, Woodward at Copper will offer Winter Camp Days, One Hit Wonder Sessions, Drop-In Sessions and Skate only sessions.
The Woodward at Copper Winter Camp Day utilizes the indoor features in The Barn as well as Copper’s on-mountain park and pipe features and is the best value for a Woodward at Copper winter experience. A Winter Camp Day consists of setting up goals for the day, a lift ticket, lunch, a fully coached morning session in The Barn, a fully coached on-snow training session in one of Copper’s nationally recognized terrain parks, and access to the evening’s first Drop-In Session. Winter Camp Days are offered to anyone eight years old and up with intermediate or above skiing and/or riding skills.
Crested Butte
Under the new ownership of CNL lifestyle properties, with the Muellers still at the operational helm, Crested Butte Mountain Resort remains dedicated to enhancing the overall guest experience, and improvements slated for the coming season reflect that commitment.
Notable changes include a remodel of the popular Ice Bar. The transformation will double the size of the existing restaurant, increasing capacity while maintaining the simple, intimate setting.
In addition, the resort has added a new base area Adventure Park for year-round play. The Adventure Park features an eco-friendly synthetic “ice” skating rink, bungee trampolines and a climbing wall, as well as a multi-lane, lift-served tubing hill for the winter. The ice skating rink, made from Super-Glide® synthetic ice, the first synthetic ice-skating facility in Colorado, was recycled from the American Museum of Natural History in New York where it was part of a display on climate change.
The Crested Butte Ski and Ride School boasts a new beginner learning area for the upcoming season. The current kids’ area will be re-graded and expanded to include beginners of all ages. Both adult and children’s ski school lessons will operate out of the same area, making morning drop-off seamless and stress-free.
Over $315 million has been invested in on- and off-mountain improvements and amenities at CBMR since Tim and Diane Mueller purchased the ski area in 2004. The resort recently unveiled Mountaineer Square, the new base area village at Crested Butte, featuring the Lodge at Mountaineer Square, new dining options, the Adventure Center, and distinctive shops. In addition, the new Elevation Hotel & Spa opened, providing a new luxury option at the base of the mountain.
Other improvements in recent years include the expanded DC Terrain Park; snow igloos, which are solid snow structures set up in the kids’ play area outside of Camp CB; new snowmaking and grooming systems; expanded lift systems; a remodel of the Treasury Center; a new children’s facility called Camp CB; the new Outpost Building Day Lodge and a central ski valet service.
In addition to the recent improvements, Crested Butte’s master development plan includes an additional $2.2 billion investment. While the experience continues to evolve, CBMR remains committed to growing the resort in a responsible manner that answers the needs of a changing community and an increasing number of visitors, while respecting the surrounding native environment.
Echo Mountain
With an emphasis on learning, progressing and family togetherness, Echo Mountain Resort is launching new Ski & Ride school programs this season. Guests can choose from several new multi-week programs for kids ages 4-14 and their parents. Kids’ morning and afternoon classes are offered in three-week sessions and a parent one-hour lesson and lift ticket can be added at a discounted rate.
One of the few resorts that offers night skiing, Echo Mountain is introducing night series programs this season geared toward specific skier types, for example, women specific skiing and riding.
In their continuing effort to progress their terrain offerings, the resort has implemented eight new terrain features throughout the mountain. In addition, four advanced features have been created including signature features from Neff and Never Summer.
Eldora Mountain Resort
Under the guidance of new general manager Jim Spenst, visitors to Eldora Mountain Resort will see enhanced guest services starting with a new website. New for 2009-10, Eldora.com features improved functionality including new features such as an interactive trail map and the ability for guests to post photos and videos. The Eldora online experience extends to the resort’s ski school department with the launch of a new online reservation system for ski school lessons. Robust guest experiences for this season are evident in the upgrade to Eldora’s rental feet. The resort invests tens of thousands of dollars each year to provide top of the line equipment including Volkl skis and Burton snowboards.
Additionally, the Boulder Ski Escape program is returning for another season as Eldora offers vacation packages for families of skiers and riders.
Loveland
As Loveland enters its 73rd year of operation, the ski area has been busy making area-wide improvements. Last season, Loveland added a Magic Carpet surface lift to Loveland Valley for children’s ski school programs. This new addition makes lessons easier and more enjoyable for children. Loveland has also spent more than $500,000 on base area enhancements at both Loveland Basin and Loveland Valley.
Love Park, Loveland’s terrain park, acquired new features from Planet Snow last season and there are plans to add more features for the 2009-10 season.
Loveland’s snowmaking system was also upgraded this summer with more than $500,000 in improvements to ensure Loveland is one of the first ski areas to open with plenty of snow for the 2009-10 season.
Monarch Mountain
In preparation for its 70th year of operations, Monarch’s rental department has invested over $55,000 in new equipment. The latest high-end skis from K2, Salomon and Volkl and snowboards from K2 and Burton have been added to the demo fleet. Monarch has also brought in some beginner-specific boots from Salomon that make walking around the base area easier. The resort also is adding a vestibule entrance to its Lesson/Rental Center building to keep the building warmer and guests dryer.
On the mountain, projects have been completed to improve the skiing/riding experience. Tree islands have been removed on Mirage, Turbo, Snowburn, and Short & Sweet runs. The trees will be used in the K2 Organic Terrain Park to build more natural features. The Tilt terrain park that was put in for kids and beginners looking for smaller terrain features was so popular that it has been more than doubled in size. Tilt will still have smaller, less intimidating jumps, berms and rails, but now there will be more of them.
In addition, Monarch Mountain has seen significant recent upgrades to its mountain amenities and guest services. Improvements include a revamped reservations system, expanded runs and terrain, and installation of new park features. Most recently, Monarch remodeled its entire Ski School/Rental Center, adding two additional electronic kiosks to the rental registration area. This addition brings the total number of kiosks to five and greatly improves the ski school and rental process for guests.
Monarch’s total capital investment over the past four seasons comes to three million dollars. Monarch is also spending $100,000 on its Master Development Plan Project this summer for scoping and environmental analysis. Terrain expansion plans are still active as the mountain added 200 acres of new terrain to the Snowcat area last season and has been working with the United States Forest Service on proposed lift served skiing on the West side of the continental divide in the No-Name Bowl.
Powderhorn
While capital improvements at Powderhorn are being finalized for the 2009-10 season, the resort has progressed steadily in recent years. In just the past five years, new terrain and infrastructure at the resort has been added, including five new black runs, two blue runs and a Magic Carpet surface lift to expand its ski and snowboard school area.
Prior to those improvements, the resort constructed its Wildewood subdivision and improved its guest services by expanding and remodeling rooms at the resort’s Inn at Wildewood.
Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort
Answering the call from expert and advanced skiers for more challenging terrain, Purgatory is expanding its expert terrain this season by more than 30 percent, opening new, steep, tree-skiing terrain accessible from its Legends lift (Chair 8). This expansion to the west of the previous ski area boundary will increase Purgatory’s skiable acreage by more than 10 percent.
Purgatory’s terrain enhancement comes after years of steady growth at the resort. Most recently, the resort added a new $50 million base area anchored by Purgatory Lodge and improved its snowmaking capabilities, effectively doubling the resort’s ability to make snow on the mountain.
The resort is making steady progress in implementing its master plan, which includes replacing several chair lifts, adding new lifts, and building a new ski and ride school on the mountain.
Silverton Mountain
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Silverton will continue to offer its specialty of extreme terrain and heli-skiing. The resort’s recent acquisition of an Astar B3 helicopter for mountain operations allows Silverton to monitor and provide guests with access to large reaches of its terrain.
Ski Cooper
Ski Cooper is known as a family resort and this year they also want to be known as a military family resort. For 2009-10, the ski area is offering specific season passes for military personnel and their families.
Along with regular maintenance and upkeep to resort facilities, Ski Cooper has enhanced their rental fleet for this season. Now guests can choose from the latest in boots, skis and snowboards. New rental equipment combines well with the resort’s new ski school and pass program. Beginners can pay as they go for three lessons and upon completion of the third lesson they receive a season pass.
Ski Cooper’s Chicago Ridge snowcat operation has added another snowcat this year and will continue to provide backcountry skiing and riding on nearly 25,000 acres of terrain. Outings include gourmet lunches served in one of the new yurts. The additional snowcat allows the resort to now offer site seeing excursions for non skiers and riders who want to spend time with family at lunch and take in the majestic views.
Additionally for 2009-10, a new enhanced website will allow guests to book catskiing and ski school reservations online. Also noteworthy for this year, Ski Cooper is freezing prices on lift tickets, ski school and rentals, keeping them the same as last year.
Steamboat
Over the past four years, more than $30 million in on-mountain improvements have erupted at the Steamboat Ski Area. Look for enhanced terrain to challenge all levels of ability, faster and more comfortable chairlifts, expanded culinary options and remodeled restaurants, among other improvements.
Specifically for the 2009-10 winter season, Steamboat poured $2.5 million into expanding the Kids’ Vacation Center, opening a new Ski & Snowboard School Ticket Office and Patrol First Aid Base Facility, and enhancing its already top-grade snowmaking system. In addition, Steamboat’s on-mountain momentum augments numerous private and public multi-million dollar revitalization projects sweeping the mountain village including the new public promenade and day lighting of Burgess Creek. In fact, the only thing not being upgraded is something Mother Nature perfected years ago—Champagne Powder snow.
Sunlight
Sunlight Mountain Resort, home of The Heathen, one of the steepest runs in the state with a 52 degree pitch, is opening this season with subtle improvements to guests’ skiing and riding experience. The guest experience starts online with the new Sunlightmtn.com website. Redesigned and launched this year, the site serves as a portal for the resort’s plethora of new seasonal offers, passes and promotions.
Focusing on base area amenities, Sunlight has quietly augmented its facilities that include the restaurant, lounge, rental and retail shop, ski school and children’s center. Attention and upkeep have been devoted to the mountain experience as well, ensuring that the 67 trails that cover 470 acres showcase Sunlight’s unique and varied terrain.
Telluride
This season, Telluride is expanding terrain to offer more challenging, expert skiing by adding Gold Hill Chutes 2-5. This long-anticipated terrain comes on the heels of Gold Hill Chutes 6-10 opening in 2007-08, and Chute 1 opening in 2008-09. Chutes 2-5 offer wide-open, above treeline couloirs and chutes dropping 1,600 vertical feet. The resort added two WWII-era howitzers last season to facilitate control of this terrain, which will open as conditions allow.
Terrain expansion is just part of ongoing improvements at Telluride. In the last five years the resort opened Revelation Bowl and the newly built Revelation Lift. Other developments include two new restaurants, restaurant upgrades, new snowmaking and snow cats, new hike to terrain, and the addition of new sun decks.
Winter Park
Celebrating 70 years of continuous operation this year, Winter Park is putting the finishing touches on the major expansion and redevelopment of The Village at Winter Park Resort. When the project is completed, it will total an estimated investment of $30 million dollars for on-mountain construction and feature 20,000 square feet of new retail, rental, restaurant and living space.
While the resort has been developing The Village at Winter Park over recent years, it has also been improving other mountain and guest service features, which includes adding four new lifts, creating nine new trails, adding terrain enhancements, opening two new base area lodging properties at Fraser Crossing and Founders Pointe, installing a new advanced sales fulfillment center, posting new on-mountain signage, remodeling restaurants, and constructing a covered parking garage and an ice skating pond.
Wolf Creek
Celebrating 70 years of epic powder skiing this year, new for this season, Wolf Creek will open the $1.5 million Raven’s Nest day lodge, located mid-mountain on top of the Raven chairlift. This lodge and dining facility was freshly completed in the spring of 2009. The Raven’s Nest will offer a food and beverage service as well as a warming area for Wolf Creek skiers and riders. Additionally, some ski school classes will meet at this mid-mountain location, providing a seamless start to lessons for guests.
Opening Raven’s Nest is the culmination of five consecutive years of resort improvements. During this time, Wolf Creek replaced the Dickey double fixed-grip chairlift with a detachable quad lift, rebuilt the Summit Building on the top of Treasure Lift for ski patrol, and upgraded its ski and snowboard rental fleet. The resort added an additional 400 parking spaces to its Tranquility Parking lot, and carried out a major refurbishment program for its Waste Water Treatment Plant totaling $1,000,000. The resort estimates spending approximately $7,000,000 on these significant improvements.

Things got rowdy at TransWorld last night.
Two movies premiered. TransWorld’s own Get Real and People’s Nice Try. Everyone was hyped. Seemed like they just couldn’t wait for the lights to drop. Happens every year. The first night of premiere week is always a blow-out. And we blew it out. ‘Bout 200 heads crammed into our skatepark. Really broke the seal on the spot. There’s some kinda stomach turning stench in there now…hot garbage, meat, maybe, stale beer. It ain’t good.

But the videos were…seriously sick, both of them. We bootlegged some shit..look for it soon. Until then…here’s the highlights:
—Chris Grenier got opener in Get Real. Crowd was roaring. Jed Anderson got ender. Shut it down. Two song part. New tricks!
—Sammy Luebke and Lucas Debari smashed mountains last winter. Their parts will make you wanna point it.
—Zac Marben opened Nice Try. Handplanted into a cliff drop. Cranked some methods. 270′d a double down. Seth Huot got curtains with as well-rounded of a part as humanly possible. Homie hustled. And has hammers for proof.
—You could buy either of these movies just for the music. They’re pretty much perfect mix tapes.

—Shaun McKay, Wille Yli-Luoma, Pat McCarthy and Scott Stevens represented for the Northwest. They’re parts will get you pumped to ride.
—Eero and Mikey made 8-Mile proud.
—Robbie Walker and Eiki Helgason got double-corks. Huge 100-plus foot double corks.
—The Powder Cowboys (Bryan Fox, Louie Fountain, Curtis Ciszek, Josh Mills) and Jonas Carlson shared one sweet ass montage.

There’s a lot more to ramble about, but it’s getting harder to focus by the minute. Bottom line: Buy these movies.

ThirtyTwo just launched outerwear and it should be dropping at a shop near you any day. Here a few goods to keep your eye out for. Their new Fast Track lacing is paving its way into the line and makes putting on and pulling off your boots a breeze, too. Plus, it locks and flexes like regular lacing so you’re not losing anything, just getting to the lift line quicker. Some highlights from the outerwear are the Doppler Down, which has a traditional quilting pattern on the inside and a regular jacket look on the outside, 20k waterproofing, recycled materials and a thick pillow of goose down. The Alpha line is also a score with insane 30k waterproofing that’s made from 100 percent recycled PET. There’s loads of stuff to choose from so dig in!

MGT sealed the deal with the Argentine winter this past week after their
2-week winter binge at South America Snow Sessions (SASS). The chicas crew
was 22 deep and had a serious presence at the SASS compound and at the
resort, Cerro Catedral. Nat Gough, Robin Van Gyn, Fabien Reuteler, and Lynn
Neil led their crews through lines and chutes, off cliffs and jumps, and
into the best parties in Bariloche for 14 days straight. DJ Z-Trip dropped
in for an exclusive small venue show up at the mountain watering hole, Mute,
where Leanne Pelosi and Dakine teammate Austin Smith gave the SASS crew a
dance lesson. Repeat camper and MGT intern Jenna MaeTogado claimed this
session ³was the best of every world packed in a two week snowboard bender;
truly winter in summer². The girls here had it good and made it better by
forging tight friendships and spreading the shred with MGT at SASS. Guess
its back to the grind in the Northern Hemisphere for now, but the
countdown to next winter is on!
Get really really good with MGT Snowboard Camp!

ROME COMMUNIQUE:
ROME SDS UNVEILS THE POPROCK LIMITED COLLECTION
It all started with the Artifact 1985.Then came the Pusher, Postermania, the Notch 1985 and the Lo-Fi 1985.Now come the Agent 1985, the Postermania Wide and the Garage Rocker.
All powered by Poprock Technology to blend that press-happy, floaty feel with that familiar pop off the tail and nose.
Given that riders with all types of addictions—pow, jib, jump, everyday shred—like different types of camber, the Design House got together with Rome riders early last winter and expanded the offering of Rome Poprock reverse camber boards.
· Agent 1985: Featuring the new MtnPop camber that blends reverse camber under foot and positive camber in the nose and tail, the Poprock version of the Agent adds a dose of float and playfulness, while maintaining the kill-it-all, park-to-peak personality of the team’s positive camber favorite.New QuickGrip sidecut gives it added bite.
· Postermania Wide: Since introducing the Artifact 1985 last year, we’ve been hearing from riders by email every week looking for a Poprock board for riders with bigger feet.Plus, a bunch of the team riders like wider boards for landing in pow.
· Garage Rocker:Since some of the friends of the AmArmy are local shreds living in resort-town ghettos without sponsorship, they suggested we create a Poprock board for riders who don’t have a lot of scratch. This is the blue-collar rocker.
Limited quantities of each model available at fine snowboard shops worldwide.
Check the Poprock Limited Collection out in the new Rome catalog or at www.romesnowboards.com.

A trip to Argentina deserves in-depth documentation. So…. before leaving I copped a Canon 5d Mark II and tried to figure out how to use it along the way. I wanted to combine, photos, videos, and interviews to paint a more complete picture of the trip. Each alone never seems to do the story justice. There’s alchemy in the three.
This is the first in a series of webisodes about my two weeks in Bariloche at SASS. Each is essentially a short-story about the people, the place and all those other peripheral experiences we’re blessed with when we travel to ride.

September 2, 2009 - DOLLARS FOR DOMAN
Orange County, CA - Celtek designer and well-known Salt Lake City artist Dave Doman suffered a severe head injury while skateboarding in San Clemente, California just over a week ago.
He and Celtek CEO Erik Leines had just wrapped up some sick new designs when they decided to head down to the beach for a surf. Always up for some fun, Dave thought he’d shoot the hill on his longboard skateboard and swung wide to hang a right onto the next street. As he was exiting the turn Dave hit a puddle of water, causing his wheels to slide out and sending him headfirst into the asphalt.
Doman was rushed to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, where he is currently in a medically induced coma, recovering from his injuries.
Dave has a long road ahead of him and needs everyone’s thoughts and prayers for a fast, complete recovery.
Hanging out in the ICU isn’t cheap, so Celtek has released a poster and a t-shirt featuring an original piece of Doman’s art to help raise some funds for our buddy. All proceeds will benefit Dave and his recovery efforts. Get yours at www.celteksnow.com
ABOUT CELTEK - Celtek is owned and operated by professional snowboarders and brothers, Bjorn & Erik Leines, who work with their world-class team to produce innovative, art-inspired accessories and to push the sport to the next level. How The Test Works
The test starts with each model of snowboard in three different sizes sent to the snowy slopes of Breckenridge, Colorado in mid-April for the weeklong test. We hire 23 expert testers [link to bios] to ride Breckenridge’s Park Lane park and the 2,400 vertical feet down Peak 8 testing each board on every type of feature and terrain available. The park boards are scored according to criteria including ollies/nollies, rail stability, buttering, flex, turning, and spinability—all-mountain is also scored in jumping and spinning, with an additional focus on high-speed stability and turning, and less focus on rails. As media leaders, Transworld challenged the invited board teamsBurton, DC, Forum, and Rome to produce the ultimate terrain park shoot and document it in video and photos to showcase the visual power and possibility in snowboarding. Like the best riders, park builders, and media pros, the magazine seeks new perspectives. And with the Shoot Out, that’s what we aimed for – but we never imagined it would go this far.
Friday, September 18: Standard Films presents Black Winter The Winter of 2009 will go down in history as one of the most transitional times that snowboarding has ever faced. Unlike any winter ever before, snow conditions were either the best ever or the most dangerous of all time. Out of these dark times rises Standard Films new High Definition Film: Black Winter… a movie that showcases the unstoppable progressive nature of snowboarding and the insatiable hunger of the riders to put down segments that will stand the test of time… Enter the Black Winter and witness the arrival of the next era of underground shreds Halldor Helgason of Iceland, Torstein Horgmo from Norway, Jason Dubois from Quebec City and Lonnie Kauk of Mammoth Lakes. Heavyweight Andreas Wiig comes aboard this season with his strongest freestyle segment to date. Chas Guldemond, Eric Jackson and Mark Landvik all have their own stories to tell about their Black Winter experience from life changing contest wins to heart pounding avalanches.
Friday, September 25: Level 1 Productions presents Refresh Never before has the sport of skiing changed and progressed so much, so quickly, as it has over the past decade. With changes in equipment, accessibility of terrain, and most importantly the mindset of some of the world’s best athletes, skiing today is not what it once was… An integral part of these recent changes, Level 1 looks back and challenges perspectives of where the sport has come from, and where it’s going in their tenth anniversary offering, “Refresh.” Keeping true to their humble roots while exploring every arena that skiing has to offer the Level 1 crew serves up the most diverse ski entertainment to date. New things will never get old fresh images of big jumps, deep powder, technical urban exploits, steep lines, and memorable terrain park action with a collection of the sport’s best and brightest talent.

Salomon Gypsy, $450
Here’s what the testers had to say:
“Smooth ride, all around fun. Good pop for jumps easy to jib.”
“This is my type of board. Super fun, poppy and jibby. A bit soft for jumps but I would still ride it!”
“This board had nice pop. It felt a little too stiff, which made it a little less buttery than I prefer in a park board, but still fun.”
“Man! I wish this test board was a smidge smaller because it was a little huge for me but I could still press it, which is awesome ’cause that never happens! A little squirrelly but overall fun!”

THE ARBOR COLLECTIVE RELEASES TWO NEW SKATEBOARDS FEATURING THE ARTWORK OF DAVE KINSEY Click To View
The artist brings his energetic portrayal of urban figures to the Bamboo Hybrid and the Koa Blunt.
Venice, CA - Sept. 2, 2009 - The Arbor Collective is proud to announce the release of two new skateboards designed in collaboration with renowned artist, Dave Kinsey. Arbor’s new Bamboo Hybrid and Koa Blunt feature original works from this progressive artist who draws inspiration from studying urban landscape and the human condition. Kinsey’s portrayal of urban figures incorporates a range of mediums constructing multilayered and textured environments, easily likened to the complexities of contemporary life and the more urban elements of skating.
The new Bamboo Hybrid is designed with a wide mid-section, concave profile, and rounded kick tail/nose to deliver both longboard stability and real flat-ground and park performance.
The new Koa Blunt is designed for longboard specific skating, with a fat front-end for step-up control at speed, and a concave, tapered shape and rounded kick tail/nose for all-around performance.
“I’m stoked to continue our collaboration with Kinsey on two new skate designs,” said Bob Carlson, Arbor’s Co-Founder. “He captures the complex depths of human existence better that anyone I know. I think his work adds a real layer of reality to our skates, an element that’s missing in much of the overly aspirational art on many longboards today.”
Both new skateboards were designed in the Arbor tradition using a range of environmentally friendly materials. The Bamboo Hybrid uses a finish ply of Bamboo, which is an exceptionally renewable resource that grows faster than any other plant. Once harvested, it self-propagates and re-grows. This amazing renewability is also 100% sustainable. The Koa Blunt uses a finish ply of sustainably sourced Hawaiian Koa (Koa wood was used by the Hawaiians to build the first surfboards over 600 years ago) Both skateboards also use sustainably sourced Hardrock Maple, ultra-clear recycled glass re-grip, water-based finishes, and recycled plastic risers. All wood byproduct created during the production of Arbor skateboards is reclaimed for use in other Arbor products or by outside companies.
ABOUT DAVE KINSEY: Born in Pittsburgh in 1971, Kinsey attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and the Art Institute of Atlanta before moving to California in 1994 to pursue a career as a designer and fine artist. His work captures the universal essence of the human condition mainly through an energetic portrayal of urban figures. Working spontaneously, and utilizing a range of mediums, he constructs multi-layered, textured environments easily likened to the complexities of contemporary life. His images depict beings who are both triumphant in their defiant stance to their surroundings, and tragic, as they transmit a visual display of raw emotion and jangled nerves. Kinsey founded BLK/MRKT Gallery in 2001, which has allowed him to provide a crossroads for a new movement of emerging and electrifying iconoclasts. In addition to these pursuits his fine art has been shown in galleries and museums worldwide, among these a recent exhibition at the URBIS Museum in Manchester and Art Brussels in Belgium. He has also been featured in such publications as The New York Times, Black Book and BLK/MRKT One and Two, and invited to speak at numerous institutions such as The Art Center, UCLA, Montserrat College of Art and most recently, the Semi-Permanent conference in Sydney, Australia. ABOUT THE ARBOR COLLECTIVE: Arbor was founded in 1995 on the assertion that solutions to many of today’s most difficult snow, skate, and apparel design challenges exist in the natural world. For 14 years, Arbor has built on the belief of replacing, environmentally harmful materials with ecologically based, natural alternatives. Arbor’s goal is to create a higher level of function and relevance in the most responsible way possible. The end result must be improved style and performance, with significantly reduced impact on the environment. For more information about The Arbor Collective please visit our new website. “We all need clean air to skate, clean water to surf, and snow to ride…”

Enter Spy’s “A Dingo Ate My Kit!” Contest
The color orange is symbolic of much of life itself; bold, fiery, unique and sometimes blinding, a color that ignited a group of active friends in Southern California to re-invent eyewear. Their vision was orange and a single thought rang true: “it’s not seeing different things; it’s seeing the same things differently.” Spy Optic was created by a group of action sports and motorsports enthusiasts who immersed themselves in the culture they knew best. Key founders Mark Simo, Brian Simo and Beaver Theodosakis saw what was on the market for eyewear in 1994 and wanted to make sunglasses better. As authentic, well-connected action sports entrepreneurs, their unbridled enthusiasm for reinventing modern eyewear attracted the world’s best athletes from motorsports, surfing and snowboarding. Spy’s athletes became a huge and influential part of the Spy family and the team’s mojo combined with Jerome Mage’s innovative design sense helped fuel the brand’s rapid growth. A world-class roster of athletes helped shape, build and lay a foundation for the Spy brand. Snowboarders Shaun Palmer, Victoria Jelouse, Marc Frank Montoya, David Carrier-Porcheron, surfers Sunny Garcia and Malloy brothers, BMX rider Jamie Bestwick, motocross sensation Jeremy McGrath, skateboarder Danny Way, NASCAR drivers Richard “The King” and son Kyle Petty, Indy Car superstars Christian Fittipaldi and Paul Tracy. Spy team riders are not only elite athletes, fun personalities, but also key influencers in the development and design of its technical products for sunglasses, motocross and snow goggles. Spy’s design is not only aesthetically pleasing, but continues to push the technological limits in eyewear. Spy’s innovative patented Scoop® technology revolutionized its sport sunglass frames. The Spy Scoop® venting system combats lens fogging by promoting airflow between the lens and the wearer’s face. This system was such a success; its technology was seamlessly integrated and applied to its snow and motocross goggles. Spy’s polarization treatments superseded existing eyewear standards with its premium injected Trident polarized lenses. The lenses effectively eliminate more than 99% of blinding glare for precise, unobstructed vision. Spy’s ground-breaking technological advancement of the all new patent-pending dual Mosaic® lens in the Apollo snow goggle uses a proprietary anti-fog and anti-scratch lens that offers brilliant and maximum peripheral vision with nominal profile. Its one-of-a-kind lens technolo gy is the most advanced on the market today. To continue to push the envelope for exceptional excellence and standards, in 2005, Spy acquired LEM S.r.l., a high quality sunglass and goggle manufacturer in Varese, Italy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Orange 21 Inc., the parent company of Spy Optic. A majority of Spy’s sunglasses are hand fabricated at LEM S.r.l., which has crafted premium eyewear for Spy and other superior eyewear brands for over 15 years. Spy Optic’s products are unique and the development is original. Each sunglass and goggle’s roots can be traced from original sketch to finished product. Live through our lens&hellip Spy Optic, Inc. designs, develops and sells premium eyewear products for the youth lifestyle market within action sports, fashion, music, and entertainment sectors. Spy’s principal products, sunglasses and goggles, target the action sports market, including surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, motorsports, and wakeboarding and skiing. Spy’s innovative proprietary products utilize high-quality materials, handcrafted manufacturing processes and engineered optical lens technology to convey premium quality, contemporary style, and progressive design. Spy Optic, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Orange 21 Inc. (NASDAQ:ORNG). Please visit www.spyoptic.com or contact info@spyoptic.com for inquiries.

TransWorld SNOWboarding, October 2009
We test them so you don’t have to.
Test forms are filled out, turned in, and computed.

The 2009-2010 site from the Rome SDS is live. Drop into www.romesnowboards.com for all the details on the 2010 product; more videos than ever on ShredTV, with new release every week; a huge collection of inside perspectives from the team and the riders at Rome HQ; and more ways than last year to get involved in the Syndicate.
From the minds and riding styles of the team riders and shop kids everywhere, “No Correct Camber” is the dominant thought behind the board line this year. Check the new Poprock-powered reverse camber collection—the Artifact 1985, the Pusher, the Agent 1985, the Postermania, the Lo-Fi 1985 and more.
